[1:14] Venus opposes Saturn on Oct. 9 (11:11 PM PDT) at 01°02’ Virgo-Pisces. The Sabian symbol for Venus is 2 Virgo, Large white cross upraised; Saturn’s symbol is 2 Pisces, A squirrel hiding from hunters. All oppositions ask us to acknowledge that the truth between two extremes usually lies right smack in the middle.
[4:41] On Oct. 10 (6:09 PM PDT), Pluto stations direct at 27°53’ minutes Capricorn on the Sabian symbol, 28 Capricorn, A large aviary. Pluto has been retrograde since May 1, when it stationed at 0º Aquarius.
[5:40] In the days around this station, avoid all-or-nothing thinking and doing things that you can’t undo.
[6:46] Mars enters Scorpio on Oct. 11 (9:04 pm PDT, through Nov. 24, 2023). Do some research while Mars is in Scorpio. Get to the truth of every situation, every relationship.
[9:11] Mars trines Saturn on Oct. 13 (5:29 AM PDT) at 00°54’ Scorpio-Pisces. Saturn is on the Sabian symbol 1 Pisces, A public market. Focus Daniel-San!
[10:22] Moon Report! A Libra New Moon Solar Eclipse on Oct. 14 (10:55 AM PDT) is at 21°07’ Libra on the Sabian symbol 22 Libra, A child giving birds a drink at a fountain.
[11:05] Eclipses bring change. In this case, change in important relationships is likely. And since the eclipse point is square Pluto, these can be permanent changes. Look to past eclipses in this area of your chart for similar themes: A lunar eclipse on April 15, 2014, 25° Libra; a solar eclipse on Oct. 14, 2004, 21°06’ Libra; on Oct. 12, 1996, a solar eclipse at 19° Libra; and on April 15, 1995, a lunar eclipse at 25° Libra.
[14:01] This New Moon initiates a Lunar Phase Family Cycle. When these cycles begin at an eclipse, they are especially unpredictable and often dramatic. The First Quarter in the cycle is on July 13, 2024, the Full Moon is on April 12, 2025, and the Last Quarter is on January 10, 2026.
[14:52] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon Periods. On Oct. 10, the Moon in Leo sextiles Mars in Libra (2:36 AM PDT). It's VOC for about 2 ½ hours before it enters Virgo (5:02 AM PDT). Show up, be fabulous, and collaborate!
[16:15] The Moon in Virgo trines Pluto (1:10 PM PDT) on Oct. 12. It's VOC for about 4 1/4 hours, then enters Libra (5:22 PM PDT). It’s time for organization and clarity.
[16:47] On Oct. 15, the Moon in Libra squares Pluto (12:01 am PDT). It's VOC for four hours before it enters Scorpio (4:04 AM PDT). This is the Moon's final aspect in the sign of Libra after that solar eclipse. Cooperate without giving away your power.
[17:35] Listener Susan asks about interceptions.

[2:06] Mercury trines Pluto (Oct. 3, 12:19 PM PDT) at 27º54’ Virgo-Capricorn. Mercury's Sabian symbol is 28 Virgo, A bald headed man who has seized power. Amplify the power and influence of your work.
[3:01] Mercury enters Libra on Oct. 4 (5:08 PM PDT) and will be in this sign until Oct. 21. We have two ears and only one mouth so we can listen twice as much as we speak.
[4:06] Mars opposes the North Node on Oct. 4 (9:06 AM PDT) at 24º57’ Libra-Aries. Pay attention to how you deal with conflict and how your relationships may be impacting progress.
[5:26] Moon Report! The Cancer Last Quarter Moon will occur on Oct. 6 (6:48 AM PDT) at 13º02’ Cancer and Libra. The Moon is on the Sabian symbol 14 Cancer, A very old man facing a vast, dark space to the northeast, and the Sabian symbol for the Sun is 14 Libra, A noon siesta. It's time to examine what role family plays in the vision of a healthier, simpler, and more useful life.
[8:16] This is the Last Quarter in a Lunar Phase Family Cycle that began with the New Moon on July 9, 2021 at 18º01’ Cancer. The First Quarter in that cycle was on April 8, 2022 and the Full Moon was on January 6, 2023.
[10:09] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon Periods. On Oct. 2, the Moon in Taurus trines Pluto (6:19 PM PDT), is VOC for about 3 ¾ hours, then enters Gemini (10:03 PM PDT). Taking a more relaxed approach can open us up to receiving more from the universe.
[11:53] On Oct. 4, the Moon in Gemini squares Neptune (9:37 PM PDT). It’s VOC for about 8 hours, then enters Cancer (Oct. 5, 5:31 AM PDT). A message to multitaskers: be prepared to drop some balls.
[12:50] The Moon in Cancer opposes Pluto (12:11 PM PDT) on Oct. 7. It’s VOC for just a little over four hours, then enters Leo (4:24 PM PDT). Another reminder that our connections with others can be a source of power.
[14:25] Mars squares Pluto on Oct. 8 (6:04 PM PDT) at 27º53’ Libra-Capricorn. This is the final square in a synodic cycle between these two planets, which began on March 3rd, 2022, at 27º50’ Capricorn. This is not a week to try to push your own agenda, but there’s an opportunity to achieve goals through connections with others.
[18:50] Just seven minutes after the Mars/Pluto square, Venus enters Virgo on Oct. 8 (6:11 PM PDT). Venus will be in the sign of her fall until Nov. 7, 2023. Make a game of doing more with less. Declutter and reorganize your home. Show your affection in practical ways to the people in your life that really matter to you.

[1:00] Thank you to Chef Laurie Gauguin and [1:57] Sandy from Sarasota for the spectacular reviews!
[2:49] Mercury trines Jupiter on Sep. 25 (5:10 AM PDT) at 14º51’ Virgo-Taurus. The first two in this series of trines were on August 9 and Sep. 4. Mercury is on 15 Virgo, An ornamental handkerchief, and Jupiter is on 15 Taurus, A man muffled up with a rakish silk hat. Nail down the practicalities, then add some flair.
[5:06] Moon Report! The Aries Full Moon is on Sep. 29 (2:57 AM PDT) at 06°00’ Aries. This Full Moon highlights the balance between Libra, which tends to take others into account before acting, and Aries, which symbolizes putting ourselves first.
[6:08] Mars, the planet that rules Aries, is currently in Libra, so we can assert ourselves as needed while still being reasonably civilized and polite.
[6:38] This is the Full Moon in a lunar phase family cycle that began at the March 31, 2022 Aries New Moon. The First Quarter in this cycle was on Dec. 29, 2022, the Last Quarter is on June 28, 2024.
[7:54] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon Periods. On Sep. 26, the Moon in Aquarius squares Uranus (5:38 AM PDT). It's VOC for a little under 12 hours before entering Pisces (5:18 PM PDT). Which do you need more of in your life - Saturn, with its rules and boundaries, or Uranus, which needs more freedom and independence?
[9:10] On Sep. 28, the Moon in Pisces sextiles Pluto (1:57 PM PDT). It's VOC for about 3 ¼ hours before it enters Aries (5:17 PM PDT). The sextile to Pluto from the Moon in Pisces signals a VOC period when we break habits of procrastination and practice exerting focus on a particular objective.
[10:18] On Sep. 30, the Moon in Aries squares Pluto (2:49 PM PDT). It's VOC for about 3 ½ hours before it enters Taurus (6:18 PM PDT). This VOC Moon period is a time to retrace our steps, finish up what we missed, and hopefully bear all of this in mind the next time we let ourselves race ahead without taking a close look at what we're doing.
[11:15] Venus makes the last in a series of squares Uranus on Sep. 29 (10:52 AM PDT) at 22º40’ Leo-Taurus. The first aspect in the series was on July 2, and the second one was on Aug. 9. This aspect highlights themes of togetherness and independence. It can also signify sudden financial windfalls or unexpected expenses.
[12:57] Mercury trines Uranus on Sep. 30 (9:55 AM PDT) at 22º38’ Virgo-Taurus. Mercury is on the Sabian symbol 23 Virgo, An animal trainer, and Uranus is on 23 Taurus, A jewelry shop. It's time to train our minds in order to achieve inspiration and breakthroughs.
[15:33] Listener L.H. asks about the most accurate location to set one’s solar return chart.
[23:02] If you’d like to have your question answered on a future episode, leave a message of one minute or less at speakpipe.com/bigskyastrologypodcast or email april(at)bigskyastrology(dot)com; put “Podcast Question” in the subject line.

[0:55] Thank you! Thank you! Thank you to all who donated to this year’s Big Sky Astrology Podathon! The winners of this year’s drawing are announced!
[3:30] Revisit Episode 100 (shout out to former co-host Jen Braun)!
[4:54] The Sun opposes Neptune on Sep. 19 (4:17 AM PDT) at 26º16’ Virgo-Pisces. The Sabian symbol for the Sun is 27 Virgo, Grand dames at tea. The symbol for 27 Pisces is A Harvest Moon. Go along for the ride!
[7:06] The Sun trines Pluto on Sep. 20 (10:21 PM PDT) at 27º59’ Virgo-Capricorn. The Sun’s Sabian symbol is 28 Virgo, A bald headed man who has seized power. This is a time when our best work is recognized.
[8:33] The Sagittarius First Quarter Moon (Sep. 22, 12:32 PM PDT, 29º32’ Sagittarius) is on the Sabian symbol 30 Sagittarius, The Pope. Take a leap of faith!
[9:19] This is the First Quarter in a Lunar Phase Family Cycle that began at the Dec. 23, 2022 New Moon (1º32’ Capricorn). Critical dates in this cycle: June 21, 2024 (Full Moon 1º07’ Capricorn) and March 22, 2025 (Last Quarter 2º05’ Capricorn).
[12:16] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon Periods. On Sep. 20 (at 3:21 AM PDT), the Moon in Scorpio sextiles Pluto. It's VOC for a little under four hours before it enters Sagittarius (7:06 AM PDT). Control your emotions to achieve greater empowerment.
[13:39] On Sep. 22, the Moon in Sagittarius squares the Sun in Virgo (12:32 PM PDT), aka our First Quarter Moon. It's VOC for a little under one hour and then enters Capricorn (1:20 PM PDT). Avoid getting so caught up in details that you miss the big picture.
[14:46] On Sep. 24, the Moon in Capricorn conjoins Pluto (1:05 PM PDT). It's VOC for about 3 ½ hours and then enters Aquarius (4:29 PM PDT). Excellent time for changing all kinds of habits.
[16:25] The Sun reaches its Libra Equinox on Sep. 22 (11:50 PM PDT). This marks the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere.
[17:16] The Aries equinox is like the “New Moon” phase of the year; the Cancer solstice the First Quarter Phase; the Libra equinox the Full Moon; and the Capricorn solstice the Last Quarter Phase.
[17:49] Libra is also the sign of relationships, and others will often reflect our own issues.
[18:49] An anonymous friend asks how to interpret the South Node with other planets or points in a chart. (For more on the nodes, check out the listener question segment in Episode 188.)

199 | Virgo New Moon: The Power of Self-Sufficiency!
Sunday Sep 10, 2023
Sunday Sep 10, 2023
This week: The Virgo New Moon tastes a lot like Neptune; Mercury turns direct, but takes a minute or two to get up to speed, especially with five other planets still retrograde; the Sun in Virgo sets ego aside and unites with Uranus to explore alternative ways of being; Venus makes one final square to Jupiter with a lesson about bouncing back in the face of disappointment; and April answers a listener question about how to appeal to each sign of the zodiac. Plus: Pisces goes first for a change, a mess or a mystery, and people are not signs!

[2:09] Moon Report! The Virgo New Moon is on Sep. 14 (6:40 PM PDT) at 21°58’ Virgo on the Sabian symbol, 22 Virgo, A royal coat of arms. Check out James Burgess’ interpretation of this symbol.
[3:11] This New Moon opposes Neptune and forms a grand earth trine with Uranus and Pluto. Consider the transformations that could happen if you step up to the plate, in an unorthodox way, to help those in need.
[4:59] This New Moon begins a new Lunar Phase Family Cycle. The First Quarter phase in this cycle is exact on June 13, 2024, the Full Moon on March 13, 2025, and the Last Quarter Moon is on Dec. 11, 2025.
[7:04] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon Periods. On Sep. 12 (8:06 AM PDT), the Moon squares Uranus at 22°59’ Leo-Taurus. It’s VOC for a little over two hours before entering Virgo (10:18 PM PDT). Leo likes standing out, but being part of a group can feel pretty special sometimes.
[8:03] The Moon in Virgo trines Pluto in Capricorn on Sep. 15 (6:49 AM PDT). It’s VOC for about four hours before entering Libra (10:44 AM PDT). This is a moment to contemplate how being independent and self-contained actually contributes to our personal power.
[8:58] On Sep. 17, the Moon in Libra squares Pluto (6:06 PM PDT). It's VOC for just a little under two hours before it enters Scorpio (9:58 PM PDT). If you tend to be too conciliatory with others, think of how you can reclaim power by asserting what you believe is fair and just.
[10:14] Mercury turns direct on Sep. 15 (1:21 PM PDT), at 08°00’ Virgo on the Sabian symbol 8 Virgo, First dancing instruction. Mercury turned retrograde on August 23, 2023. For a moment, six planets were retrograde: Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. It’s time to slow down and relax.
[12:14] Also on Sep. 15 (6:24 PM PDT), the Sun trines Uranus on 22°56’ Virgo and Taurus. The Sabian symbol for the Sun is 23 Virgo, An animal trainer, and the symbol for Uranus is 23 Taurus, A jewelry shop. Give up that idea of who you have to be and explore alternatives.
[14:29] On Sep. 17 (12:18 PM PDT), Venus makes the last of three square aspects to Jupiter. The other two squares in this series were on June 11 and August 22. It's been a process of learning how to handle disappointment or how to handle getting too much of a good thing.
[16:10] Listener Elliott asks about what appeals to different astrological signs. April takes a crack at answering – but remember, people are not signs!
[24:54] If you’d like to have your question answered on a future episode, leave a message of one minute or less at speakpipe.com/bigskyastrologypodcast or email april(at)bigskyastrology(dot)com; put “Podcast Question” in the subject line.

[7:48] Moon Report! The Moon is in its sign of rulership, Cancer and trines Saturn (3:43 AM PDT) at 2°55’ Cancer-Pisces. Emotions could get choppy this afternoon (1:33 PM PDT) when the Moon squares Mars at 7°56’ Cancer-Libra.
[9:25] The Cancer Moon will be Void-of-Course (VOC) for almost four hours on Sunday, September 10th, between its opposition to Pluto (5:47 AM PDT) and when it enters Leo (9:36 AM PDT). Unresolved feelings and hurts, and even regrets might rise to the surface.
[10:11] Greetings from Listener Teresa!
[10:35] Days of the Week: Friday (love), Saturday (work), and Sunday (rest).
[10:55] Friday is Venus' Day. Friday is named for Freya, the Norse goddess of love, beauty, fertility, and sex. Traditional homemakers made Friday the day that they cleaned their homes, but it's a fine day for romance, too!
[12:30] Saturday is Saturn's day. Any kind of hard physical labor is compatible with Saturn's energy. The traditional homemaker baked on Saturday so that fresh bread would be available for Sunday, the Sabbath.
[13:41] Sunday is the Sun's Day. This was the traditional day of rest, set aside for relaxation, recreation, and worship, all ruled by the Sun.
[14:52] And that's a wrap for the The Fourth Annual Podcast! Thanks for listening in all week long! Make your donation at BIGSKYASTROPOD.COM. [4:34] Greetings from Listener Karen!
[5:26 Moon Report! The Mercury-ruled Gemini Moon squares Neptune today (3:21 PM PDT) at 26°35’ Gemini-Pisces. It’s Void-of-Course for 6 ½ hours before it enters Cancer (9:59 PM PDT). Multitasking is favored over getting really intensely focused on one thing, but be careful about overdoing it.
[7:44] Thursday is Jupiter’s Day. Its name is derived from the Norse God, Thor, often associated with Jupiter.
[8:15] Jupiter compels us to share our thoughts and beliefs, teaching, lecturing, writing for publication. Jupiter also supports adventures to unfamiliar territory. In the traditional home, Thursday was marketing day, so spread your wealth around!
[9:16] Consider honoring Jupiter by wearing Jupiterian colors of turquoise and purple and/or his gemstones which are turquoise, topaz and lapis lazuli.
[10:20] Greetings from Listener Shellie!
[11:09] A closer look at the Sabian symbols. The Sabian symbols are 360 symbolic images and phrases, one for each degree of the zodiac. They were channeled by psychic Elsie Wheeler and recorded by astrologer Marc Edmund Jones in 1925 in San Diego, California.
[11:55] Astrologers use the symbols as a tool of divination, as points of focus for meditation, even as writing prompts, and they can take us into a birth chart in a little more imaginative way.
[13:22] Josh’s question about using the Sabian symbols (and…ox entrails?). Check out Lynda Hill’s book, 360 Degrees of Wisdom, for more information about Sabian symbols.

[5:18 ] Today, Mercury conjoins the Sun (4:09 AM PDT) at 13°36’ Virgo. Take advantage of the power and clarity of mind and communications that are represented by this cazimi condition of Mercury.
[6:27] Moon Report! The Last Quarter Mercury-ruled, Gemini Moon (3:21 PM PDT) is at 14º03’ Gemini on the Sabian symbol 15 Gemini, Two Dutch children talking. Just a heads up, as the Moon squares Mercury today (1:45 PM PDT), feelings may not match up with words.
[7:35] Tuneful greetings from Listener Emily!
[8:20] The name Wednesday is derived from “Wodensday”, a nod to the Norse God Odin, which was called Woden in old English. Woden and Mercury shared association with communication, knowledge, and travel, and eventually referred to the same day of the week. Since Mercury is associated with manual and mental dexterity, mend clothing, study, communicate, and run neighborhood errands.
[10:44] A closer look at the Lunar Phase Family Cycles. Let’s give a Big Sky Astrology shout out to Celeste Brooks of Astrology by Celeste, who tipped April off to these cycles. Check out their interview on Episode 141. Dietrich Pessin’s book is a fine resource on these cycles as well.
